Quick Takes Friday, Vol.5

--- 1 ---
Today is the best Friday of the year. Know why? Daylight Savings Time (a.k.a. Hell) ends this weekend! I swear, I never adjust to the torture that is DST, so for over half the year I'm fighting my body's internal clock. It's almost over for this year, though. I'm so happy I might throw a party. Or cry tears of joy. Or just sleep. (More anti-DST fun)
--- 2 ---
Is there some weird DNA coding in young boys that tells them to move slower when you're running late, or is it just my boy? It also seems to affect how tired his normally full of energy leg muscles are when walking to school.
--- 3 ---
November is National Novel Writer's Month, aka NaNoWriMo. I gave up all pretense of trying to complete something remotely novel-like in November about six years ago. Even so, I still feel a twinge of anxiousness at the beginning of November. It's like the feeling I get when there's something I need to do, something I should be doing but either can't or am just being lazy. The result is my wanting to smack anyone who mentions NaNo in my presence. Oddly enough, 90%-ish of my twitter and FB friends are writers, at least for the month of November. I might need to take a month long social media break.

Wasps are making yet another nest near my front porch. Getting the kids in and out of the house without getting stung has become a sort of sport. Chris likes wasps because they eat the web worm larva that attack our pecan (that's puh-cahn, not pee-can<-gross) trees. I like pecans, but I like not getting stung and having to stay drugged up on Benedryl for two days better. But with the Beckett attached at the hip (and, um, two days of Benedryl coma if I get stung), Chris has to be the one to get rid of the wasps. Since he sees them as beneficial, he tends to drag his feet about it. I'm thinking of announcing a cooking and/or leaving the house boycott this time in hopes of getting it done faster.

Our high temperature for today is supposed to be 88 degrees. Someone please inform the weather that it is November.

Why is it so hard to find soft-soled baby shoes? With cooler weather coming (I hope), B needs some shoes to keep socks on his feet. The only shoes I have for him are some clunky Nike shoes someone gave him. I refuse to make him wear them for these reasons. I finally broke down and ordered some soft, non-slip baby shoes online, even though I really wanted him to try them on first. In the meantime, I'll have to continue to deal with the annoying "Where's his shoes?" remarks from people even though it's 80 degrees and he's not walking and always in a sling/stroller/buggy whenever we're out.

I really wish Caillou would get a year or two older. Maybe then he would stop whining.

  1. I've had the same thought about Caillou. Of all the aggravating kids' characters he is the worst!

  2. Compared to Caillou, I actually like Barney, which is something I never thought I'd say. The only cartoon I can think of that might make Caillou look good is Dora. It's close, though.

  3. If it makes you feel any better, we never put shoes on a babies until they start walking. What's the point? In the winter, we put on slipper socks and we're good to go!

    1. That's how I see it, too. But I don't think B is going to listen to me when I tell him he can't start walking until after he turns one, so I see shoes in the near future anyway. Stinker is already cruising the furniture.
